JUDGE – LOREDANA SALINA TOMA, SWITZERLAND
My name is Loredana Salina Toma. I have been given the honor to judge this year’s speciality show. I have been involved in purebred dogs for over 30 years, starting as exhibitor, then breeder, and ultimately as FCI judge.
I have owned, bred, and handled Newfoundland under the kennel name Fairweather’s. In 1996 I got my very first Newfoundland Ch. And I’m Great To Be Back “Bruce”, and his sister Any Chance For You “Julie”, both imported from USA. Julie become my foundation bitch. Bruce over the years became a very famous representative of the breed. Not only because of his multiple Best in Show winnings and being the very first Newfoundland in show history to win the Working Group at Crufts, but also, thanks to his many successful offspring around the world, earning the title of ROM in US.
Bruce was followed by his nephew, my own bred Ch. Fairweather’s A Great Pretender “Sam”. He followed in his uncle’s paw prints in the show ring by gaining 14 Champion titles and he proved his value in breeding also earning the title of ROM in US. One of the highlights of Sam’s show career was him winning Best of Breed at the World Dog Show in Milan in 2000 when only 15 months old and with 196 Newfoundland entered. Besides Bruce and Sam I have had an honor to own many memorable and notable Newfies. We have also bred several champions and winners in many countries.
I have loved showing and handling my own dogs in the show ring. I have learned most from watching - watching people handle, train, groom, and breed dogs, regardless of which breed. I tried to learn from others' successes as well as from their mistakes.
Newfoundland have not only left their paw prints in my heart, but also on Newfie lines. Many have been the foundation for several successful Newfoundland kennels that are active today. It is heartwarming to see their great, great, grandchildren carry on the beautiful legacy of the Fairweather’s Newfoundland dogs.
I'm passionate about the Newfoundland, preserving breed type and with seeing the essence in a dog, not stopping at a detail. Only the beauty of the whole can make it unique. The Newfoundland is my passion I have dedicated time and study to the breed, writing a commentary on the standard in five different languages.
It is a priviledge and honor for me to be invited to judge at your specialty show. This is my very first time I visit your beautiful country, and I am so excited to meet you and your dogs. Thank you for giving me this opportunity!
Kind regards, Loredana Salina
